Required User Permissions for Installation
In order to successfully install and run QuerySurge on Linux, you will need a user with the necessary administrative permissions. It is generally recommended to install as root or using sudo (or equivalent) permissions. If you install as a user other than root, you may want to consult the following outline of the directories and rights required:
- Read/Write/Execute permissions on the chosen QuerySurge installation directory
Default installation directory: /opt/QuerySurge - Write permissions to the services directory (/etc/init.d)
User must have rights to: cp /opt/QuerySurge/service.sh /etc/init.d/QuerySurge - Permission to create and run a service
User must have rights to: chkconfig --add QuerySurge
Note: Services-related permissions are not necessary if you are not installing QuerySurge components as services.
Note: If you are not installing QuerySurge components as services, note that when you manually start QuerySurge processes, you must start them under a user account with sufficient permissions to access all required required resources (including, but not limited to, directories and files).
Note: See our System Requirements article here for Linux distributions that are currently supported.
