QuerySurge's notification feature allows users to create custom email notifications that will be automatically generated when a certain criteria is met. While email notifications for Project-related events (ex. test executions) are set up by Project Admin users, the available global events are configured in Global Administration by Global Admin users.
Note: Email server settings must be configured before notification emails can be successfully sent.
Viewing Notifications
Global notifications can be accessed in QuerySurge Global Administration, from the Global Administration Tree listed under the Notifications folder. Like Project notifications, there are three different grids for viewing the notifications: All Notifications, By User, and By Role.
QuerySurge currently includes two default Global notifications, Disk Space Alert and Disk Space Warning, which may only be edited.
Editing a Notification
To edit a Global notification, select the notification in the All Notifications grid, and click Edit. This brings up the Notification Details window.
Note: For the Disk Space Alert and Disk Space Warning notifications, the Name, Event, and Event Criteria fields are read-only.
Email Template
The Notification Email template editor is located in the middle of the Notification Details form. This determines how the email will look and what information it will contain.
You are required to enter a Subject, which will be used as the email subject for the Notification. Below is the area to create the email body. The body editor has several built in formatting options available; you can also edit the body directly by clicking on the HTML button.
It is also possible to add data field placeholders to the email notifications by clicking on . This will display a dropdown menu that allows you to select the data fields that should be inserted into the email.
Note: Data Fields can be added to an email body using
or they can be typed in manually in either the body or subject fields using the ${Data Field Name} format.
Adding Users and Roles
The last section of the Notification Details form allows you to select which users should receive the notification email. This can be specified by adding users directly, and also by adding one or more of the following groups of roles:
- All Users: All users in the QuerySurge instance
- Global Admin Users: All users with access to Global Administration
- Project Admin Users: Users assigned to one or more Projects with the Project Admin role
To add a user or role click and select a user or role from the list. To remove the user or role click
to remove the row from the grid.
Best Practice: It is important to ensure email addresses have been entered and are correct for the applicable users, because the email address for notifications will be obtained from user details.
